Cold Weather Trickle Alert and Freeze Services

Hello St. Mary's Community Members,

Temperatures will be cold this weekend (1/23 - 1/25) reaching single and negative digits at night. We advise that you trickle water during this time to keep main lines, service lines, and plumbing lines from freezing.

In addition to trickling, here are a few other steps you can take to prevent your service lines and indoor plumbing from freezing:

  • Keep your heat at or above 55ºF.
  • Keep doors and cabinets open for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and utility rooms to allow heat to reach the plumbing in those areas.
  • Insulate accessible plumbing that has a higher likelihood of freezing or that has frozen in the past. If necessary, use space heaters safely (to prevent house fires from starting).
  • Disconnect all exterior water connections and hoses.
  • Keep at least one faucet in your house trickling.

Frozen service lines and indoor plumbing are the responsibility of the homeowner. However, if your lines do freeze, please feel free to reach out to us at 720.722.3692 or smgwsd.operations@gmail.com.  The District offers jetting services for frozen sewer lines, and we may be able to thaw a frozen water line as well. These services each cost a flat rate of $250 for the first 4 hours. In order to maximize this time, please know where your curb box and cleanouts are and have them marked.

If you have any other questions, please reach out. Thank you all.
