Frozen Service Lines
Hello St. Mary's Community Members,
We are getting several calls right now about frozen water and sewer service lines. Although it's not the coldest year, the ground is freezing deeper this year because there is not an insulating layer of snow. That, combined with the constant freeze-thaw cycles that allow cold groundwater to penetrate further, is a recipe for disaster.
Please keep an eye on your service lines! If you are not on the mountain full time, try reaching out to a neighbor to see if they are able to check on yours. Although the Water District, Metro District, and several helpful neighbors are on the mountain every day monitoring things, we are not able to see everything, and we do not have the resources to do a wellness check on every house.
If one or both of your service lines freeze, it is a service the District offers to thaw them. We have a Hot Shot to thaw water service lines, and a Hot Jetter to thaw sewer service lines. These are additional services the District offers for $250 (in most cases). However, it is secondary to our main duties, so we cannot always respond that hour, day, or (in some cases) week. Please be patient, and know that there could be instances where you may need to bring in another professional to get the job done on a faster timeline.
If you have any questions about freezes or our services, please email us at smgwsd.operations@gmail.com or call/text us at 720-722-3692. Thank you all, and stay warm.
