Preparations for Winter

Hello St. Mary's Community Members,

Temperatures this week are finally showing the approach of winter. This is NOT a trickle alert, but it is a reminder to begin winterizing your home and indoor plumbing. Now is the time to finish up those projects to help keep your house better protected. Here are a few other steps to take:

  • Keep your heat at or above 55ºF especially if you are leaving for an extended period of time.
  • Keep doors and cabinets open for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and utility rooms to allow heat to reach the plumbing in those areas.
  • Insulate accessible plumbing that has a higher likelihood of freezing or that has frozen in the past. Plug in or install heat tape on susceptible plumbing. If necessary, use space heaters safely (to prevent house fires from starting).
  • Disconnect all exterior water connections and hoses. Blowout irrigation lines.
  • Add skirts and insulation to trailers for additional protection.

If you have any other questions, please reach out. Thank you all.
